Our firm represents a group of brave survivors who suffered abuse while attending John Ware School in Calgary, Alberta, between 1988-2004.

Many of our clients were sexually abused by Michael Gregory.  Some of our clients were physically abused by Michael Gregory.  In all cases, they were psychologically abused as well.

We also learned that some students at John Ware were sexually abused by another teacher, Fred Archer.  Fred Archer was previously convicted of sexually assaulting young boys at Springbank Middle School.

We have also determined that Archer and Gregory were working together to further their sexual assaults from the early to mid-1990s while they were both employed at John Ware.

We have developed substantial evidence of errors and omissions by other employees at John Ware School that we believe played a role in permitting these assaults to occur.

What if I have information about the case that I am prepared to share in order to help survivors?

Your information will be kept confidential, and we will not disclose it to anyone else without your permission.  Similarly, your identity will not be disclosed without your permission, either.

What if I suffered abuse at John Ware School during those years?

We would be happy to make contact with you by telephone, email, Zoom, or in person.  The contact can be on a “no names” basis if you are nervous.  We promise not to disclose your identity or information without your express permission.

Can I make a claim for my injuries that were caused by the abuse at John Ware School?

Yes.  We would be happy to talk to you about the claim process, what it involves, and how long it might take.

Is there a cost to talk about my experiences at John Ware School?

No.  We will not charge anyone for inquiries or discussions about what they know, or their personal claim.

If you decide to go ahead with a claim, our office will likely be happy to assist you through a contingency fee arrangement.  That means that you will pay nothing up front, and our office is only paid if we secure a recovery for you.  Our fee would be on a percentage of recovery basis.  All costs for the claim, such as fees for gathering information and expert reports, will be covered by our office, and recovered at the time the claim is resolved.

What are the chances of success in a lawsuit against the Calgary Board of Education, Gregory, and Archer for the abuses that occurred at John Ware School?

We believe that the evidence of liability that we have obtained to date is very strong.  Accordingly, we strongly believe that the lawsuit against the Calgary Board of Education, Gregory, and Archer will be successful.

Is the case likely to go to trial, or will it settle before then?

We understand that many people worry about the idea of a trial in open court.  In most cases of this sort, the cases settle long before trial.

If I come forward, will my name be known to the public?

There are steps that we can take to keep your name out of court records and the media if that is your wish.

Do I have to tell my family if I become involved?

That would be your own personal decision.  At some point in the case, we may ask to speak to some of your family members, but we would never force you to do anything that would be uncomfortable in that regard.

Can I receive help in getting referrals for counselling and other recovery resources?

Absolutely.  We are happy to help refer people in need of assistance.
