
Kirk strives to provide his clients with timely, proactive and cost-effective advice to enable them to avoid, mitigate, manage and respond to risks. He takes a hands-on approach with his clients to understand and work towards obtaining the results that meet their objectives both inside and outside of the courtroom. Kirk has appeared and represented clients before all levels of Court in Alberta as well as in several other jurisdictions, including, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. Kirk also has extensive experience in assisting clients in resolving matters through various dispute resolution forums and has recently become involved as a Mediator to help facilitate conflict resolution between parties to litigation.
Kirk has particular interest in the following areas:
- Construction Litigation representing owners, general contractors, subcontractors, design professionals in construction-related claims including complex construction deficiencies building/construction/design deficiencies, builders’ liens, property claims, contract review/drafting, builders’ liens property loss and delay claims.
- Professional Liability claims against and on behalf of construction design professionals
- Condominium property litigation
- Corporate and Commercial Litigation contractual, commercial, and shareholder disputes
- Mediation and Arbitration
Kirk actively participates in and gives seminars to clients and industry participants on various construction issues relating to his practice areas. He values and believes in continuing education as a means to improve transparency and help parties manage risk.
Kirk is actively involved in the community and is passionate about raising awareness and funds for community charitable and not for profit initiatives. He volunteers his time with the Alberta Children’s Hospital and actively supports Canadian Special Olympic athletes, participating regularly in the Motionball Marathon of Sport. In his free time, Kirk enjoys spending time with his family and travelling.
